Material / Mechanical Failure Investigation

Material Failures

Perhaps most fundamental of all forensic analysis is that of material failure. History is full of examples where humans have built things that did not perform as we may have intended. The blame can rest anywhere. The designer may have made a calculation error. The part may have been fabricated with substandard materials. The owner may have operated the equipment outside of its specifications.

Our materials experts have advanced training and a state of the art lab capable of scanning electron microscope analysis and spectroscopy. We have performed extensive work in the area of 3D wear measurements. Other capabilities include wear particle analysis, wear of gears and bearings, and corrosion analysis. Secure evidence storage with chain of custody documentation is available.
